Hi,

I am trying to trace the Masserina and White families of New Orleans, in hope
of finding info on my gr gr gr grandfahter John L. White form Boston.

John L. White was supposedly from a wealthy family in Boston. His family
owned a hotel called White's Hotel. He married a poor Irish governess, Maria
O'Neill, and his family kicked him out. They lived in the NO area from at
least 1867 until at least 1894.

They had three children:

Julia (b. November 18, 1867)
Joseph (b. 1877)
Florence (b. January 10, 1884)

Julia married Frederick Brechtel when she was 15 and became my gr gr
grandmother. Julia had her first child one month after Florence was born.

Florence's godmother was Lilly Evangellini Hershey. (Anyone recognize this
name?)

Maria died sometime 1884 - 1894, and John became an alcoholic. In the late
1890s, a wealthy woman (a member of his family) came and took him back home.
He promised to come back for his children, but he never did. Florence was
the only one home at the time, but she was deaf and dumb, so could not tell
anyone what happened.

Florence attended Chichuba School for the Deaf and married William Masserina,
also a student at the school. They had one daughter Florence Masserina.

I would like to contact the Masserina family, (especially Florence if she is
still around).

Anybody have any ideas?

Colleen
