If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was in 1942 that my young
friends and I loitered in the background as they blew up the tree stumps on
the strip of land between Gentilly and Bayou St.John that became Desaix
Blvd. Previously it had been our short cut to City Park. I remember the
construction of the houses because I was madly in love with a 13-year-old
girl who resided in one.
