Well, I don't think that's necessarily true, because I have an obit on a
gentleman who died in New Orleans in 1895. There was a line, copy to various
other cities, none of which were from where he was from. I think the "copy
to" was for places where his relatives lived. These obits were sent through
a wire service, or maybe via the telegraph.
