Hi Catherine,

Yes, home photography was definitely possible before 1900. If your great
grandfather's camera is in a museum, he was probably as you say a photography
buff. The buffs always know about the cool stuff first.....Note the photo you
have is for a special occasion, too. It's not just a photo of the kids at the
playground, etc.

Would love to see the photo if you will share it with me.
