Colleen,

I believe that Carol in Florida might be correct. The
word looks to me like hinten. In this case it MAY
mean in the back, that is, in a back section of the
cemetery. On one page, the word hinten is by two
Negro burials. With one exception, all the others
that have the word by it are infants (including one
stillborn) and children. I believe it would be quite
possible that there was a rear section of St. Joseph
No. 1 for such burials. Might the Archdiocesan
cemeteries office know if there was such a section?
Ill do some more checking and thinking.
