Barbara, since Katrina I started getting mail (delivered to my home in
Hammond) TODAY. About 2 weeks after the storm we could go to the post
office, wait in a big line and show our driver's licence and they would
hand it to us. I was expecting some $ from clients...needless to say I
didn't get it. Our mail comes through New Orleans and it seems my mail was
doing the backstroke. After waiting in line for about an hour I was given a
Walmart flyer and a Radio Shack flyer..oh boy.
Mail started getting delivered here about a week ago, but I wasn't getting
any. My husband went by the post office yesterday and was given a huge
stack of mail. He met the postal guy on the way home. It seems he saw the
huge tree across the front of my house in the yard and thought he couldn't
get through it to the mailbox. We had cut a path right where he usually
walks, but I guess he didn't see it, lol.
Many bills are deferred, but it helps to call...not all of them are being
nice. I got a stack of them to take care of today.
A friend of mine works for the USPS in a small town near here and said our
mail is now coming out of Shreveport.
In the grocery store today, I heard some people discussing the fact that
they got their Entergy bill today and it had been "guessimated" and not
read from the meter. I hope they read mine. I sure don't want to pay for 2
weeks of no electricity, 3 weeks without a phone and a month without cable
or internet service.
