I watched it too and enjoyed it very much. It gave me hope that some day I'd find my answers too. However, I think a lot of people will get the impression that "finding your roots" is an easy task, which we all know it's not and can take years of work. Also, the show took the celebrity to three different states, which most of us who do this as a hobby cannot afford to do.

Also, I get a big kick out the Ancestry.com commercials running now on TV that say just put in a name, click a button and you can find out all you want about your ancestors. LOL!

This sounds really cynical, but I love this hobby of mine and, if I EVER did get all my questions answered, I don't know what I would do with all the extra time I'd have. I just finished helping an 8 year old friend with a Family Tree project she had for school and I think I've recruited another genie-bug!

I imagine some of you may have heard about this program, or even seen its debut last Friday (March 5).  I missed it on TV, but today I was thrilled to find that I could view it on my computer.  Here is the link:

It is wonderful to know that genealogy, the  passionate persuit we share here,  has made it back to primetime TV.  Way back when, the miniseries Roots was what gave me the inspiration to start digging for my own ancestors and interviewing my aging relatives.  Hopefully, this show (as well as the wonderful series that have been done by Henry Louis Gates for PBS) will spread the enthusiasm.  More importantly, I hope it will help more people understand that those piles of old papers in the attics, the boxes in the cellars of town halls, and the collections held by  financially strapped libraries  are PRECIOUS - and well worth the expense of maintaining, preserving, and making available for researchers.

Who Do You Think You Are? airs on Fridays on NBC - 8 pm Eastern, so I would assume 7 pm Central.

P.S. You can also see Faces of America , the latest genealogy miniseries from Henry Louis Gates, online.  It is up on the PBS web site.  http://www.pbs.org/wnet/facesofamerica/   PBS usually only keeps the full episodes online for a short time, so I would check it out soon, if you are interested.  They also sell the DVD for about $25, so you can purchase it (or even better, get your local library to purchase it!).
