My ancestor, Zenon AYMOND, was a resident of Pointe Maigre, Avoyelles
parish, when (according to his widow's successful pension application) he
enlisted into the Confederate Army in August, 1863 in Pineville, La. All
that is listed for his unit is "Engineers Corps.". He was paroled on June
8, 1865 in Alexandria.
I suspect that he must have served near his home, as he had children
born in 1863 and in March, 1864. Also, one of the men who filed out an
affidavit attesting to his service was Laurent Dupuy, who served in Co. G
of the Consolidated Crescent Rgt., but who was detached as a nurse at a
hospital in Marksville.
Prior to the War, Zenon had been a farmer and a mechanic (one who worked
upon farm machinery, cotton gins and etc.....).
Is it possible that my Zenon may have been stationed at Ft. DeRussey ?
Was he perhaps overseeing the slaves that worked in the construction of
that Fort (or himself doing some work)? Any suggestions on a unit for my
ancestor would be most appreciated.
