I do not see any MERTENS in this book.
I do not see any MATHEWS either.
(There are a few MATTHEWS, but no Lucy, and none born on 18 Feb 1870.)

my grandfather was Frank Mertens b. January 27, 1870 in Rillaar, Belgium, he
married November 20, 1889 in Alexandria, La. to Lucy Mathews b. February 18,
1870 in Alexandria, La.; my ggrandfather was Peter Frances Mertens b. April
13, 1843 in Testelt, Belgium, he married August 17, 1867 in Testelt, Belgium
to Anna Marie Rosa Lee Vangossum b. June 19, 1839 in Zichem, Belgium; my
gggrandfather was Petrus Josephus Gommaris Mertens b. 1807 in Belgium, he
married in Belgium to Anna Elizabeth Luyten d. December 5, 1844 in Belgium..
Peter Frances Mertens married August 17, 1867 in Testelt, Belgium to Anna
Marie Rosa Lee Vangossum. They had 7 children in Belgium, Henry, Frank,
Angelena, Leona, Gustav, Maria and Alfonse. In 1887, they came by boat to
New Orleans, traveled up the Mississippi and Red Rivers to Alexandria, La.
and became citizens of USA.
