Hello List:
Here is a name to one of the initials on the Mexican War volunteers.
This was my great grandfather, Private Charles Pemberton Peyton, Sr.
He enlisted in New Orleans, La. on May 12, 1846 for a term of 4 months.
He was honorably discharged after approximately 3 months at New Orleans, La.,
on August 8, 1846. He had not yet married at that time, was single.
I have been searching for any information for about 20 years and recently
went to visit a distant cousin who gave me some handwritten notes which were
left by his deceased wife which were written sometime in the 1940's giving me
the clue that Charles had been in the Mexican war and that he had died in the
war. Thankfully he had not died then as there would not have been any
decendants. He died November, 1860, shortly after my grandfather was born.
There were two girls older than grandfather, he was also named Charles (Jr.)
I also was able to acquire my great grandmother's pension application which
described great grandfather, gave their marriage date, and death date of
charles (Sr.).
This goes to prove - don't ever give up on your searches - the info is out
there, we just have to keep on keeping on to find it!!
Jeanne
