A good illustration of how much incorrect (along with the correct)
information that can be found in Census can be found in these
two entries from the 1900 Rapides Parish Census Soundex.
This is the entry for Ward 9, Pineville for Edward Nugent. Vol 34 ed 137
sheet 13 line 95
He is white, born January 1872 age 28 born Louisiana. His household
consists of Pinkie (wife) born December 1874 age 25 Louisiana
Houston (son) born January 1894 age 6 Louisiana
Louella (daughter) born February 1896 age 4 Louisiana
Joshua (son) born October 1899 age 8/12 Louisiana
This entry for Ward 10 Rigolette for Ed Nugent vol 34 ed 136 sheet 13
line 80
He is white, born February 1874 age 26 Louisiana. His household consts of
Pink (wife) born (can't read the month but it looks like un) 1879 age 21
Louisiana
Huston (son) born Auust 1895 age 4 Louisiana
Louella (daughter) November 1897 age 2 Louisiana
Joushwaya (son) October 1899 age 7/12 Louisiana
I have ancestors and collatoral lines in Rapides. I have found from
information
known to me, that the census taker for Pineville entered information that is
often far afield. The census taker for West Alexandria and for Alexandria
entered (for the most part) information known to me.
I visited the graves of Ed and Pinkie - they are buried in the cemetery next
to the Baptist Church in Holloway (can't remember the name)..
Her stone reads Pinkie Nugent wife of Ed Nugent born 12/3/1877 died 2/2/1974
His stone reads Ed Nugent born 2/5/1872 died 9/23/1974.
