QRYTEXT: Looking for ANY information on John Frederick Henry Afferman.
Best I can tell, he was born in Germany 1830, came to area near Lamourie,
Louisiana in mid 1800's, paroled prisoner of war, co F, Hvy Arty, was a
cooper and farmer, is shown in 1880 census shows him age 50, a
farmer, living alone-single-Rapides Parish, married Nicey Virginia Speight
Taylor 10/31/1893--Rapides Parish. He apparantly died in the late 1890's
or very early 1900's. Can't find any records of his death or burial.
Family lore indicates that he lived on or near Bayou Lamourie and that he
owned a plantation there (my grandfather, now deceased, stated that he
went there as a child and that there was a sign that said Afeman or
Afferman Plantation), and the his wife had to sell it or lost it for
taxes to a gentleman by the name of Richard Fowler (not sure if this name
is correct) following his death. Some of this information came from her
as she was much younger than him, remarried to Mr. William Potter and
lived until the mid 1900's. If this is true, it would have to be on of
those plantations that remained following the destruction of the civil
war. One particular story from a now deceased family member indicates
that the plantation was Loyd Hall. When I email the various plantations
in the area, I never get a response. It almost feels that there is some
creepy aire of secrecy surrounding this individual. I want desperately
to know more about my ancestors and their legacy (good or bad). If
anyone out there knows anything about this individual, please email me.
thank you
