I need help in understanding the families of the surnames Mann, Manns, Maniss. The marriage record for my ancestors Christian Pabst and Mary Manns is found in the old Carroll Parish marriage book (1850). It appears that her name is Manns, but long-hand with all those m, n, and s letters is difficult to decipher. Christian and Mary lived in the Midway community which is now in NE Richland Parish.

I can find no Manns family in the records for the tri-parish area of W. Carroll, E. Carroll, and Richland. I do see mention of James M. Mann and wife Savannah; Thomas M. Mann and wife Mildred; Hezekiah Maniss and family; Henrietta Maniss.

Some of the Mann family are buried at the Midway Baptist Church cemetery.

Any help in sorting out the members of these families who lived in the area in the 1800's will be appreciated.
