Subject: The June family of Hammond
Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 15:28:35 EST

Hi, I just joined this list and wanted to introduce myself. I am a
descendant of Cyrus and Lutheria June who came to Hammond, Nov. of 1887 from
Manceshter, IA. Following 3 of their sons arrival in LA. The following was
taken from an article that was published Oct. 14, 1887 in the Manchester IA
newspaper: "Ed E. June, with his brothers, Fay and Ralph, started for the
state of Louisianna in a small boat launched on the Missisiippi River, They
intend to remain in the South" following an article pub. Aug 12, 1887 "Ed &
Raph June of Manchester bought the neat little steamer "Dairy City" and were
fitting it up to go down the Mississippi River" I have not idea why they
moved to Hammond.

At one point Ralph Everette June was the major of Hammond, he died Aug 14,
1911 and is buried in the Greenlawn cemetery.
Lutheria June died Dec 11, 1897 in Hammond but I have been unable to locate
her grave.
Ed E.'s name was Edson Ellsworth and he ran a brick yard in Hammond around the
early part of the century. This family were 7th day Advents.
The only information that I have on Fayete Dugan June is that he remained in
Hammond and died March 13, 1937, but doesn't seam to be buried at Greenlawn.

I am hoping someone on this list would have some information concerning what
years Ralph was the mayor of Hammond?
Are there any other cemetaries, then Greenlawn that Cyrus, Lutheria and
Fayette could be buried at? and does anyone have any clues on finding out the
death date for Cyrus?

If anyone else is researching the June surname, please contact me.

Thank you and Happy Hunting,
Anita
