I found this obituary in my file. Thought maybe someone would be
interested in it. It is as follows:
OBITUARY
TAPS SOUND FOR A G.A.R. VET
The funeral of that old soldier and good cit-
izen, Mr.Jesse Latta was held from the home
on Wednesday last, conducted by Rev. Emmanuel
Harris. Many relatives and neighbors were pre-
sent to pay a last farewell to one who had
filled well his part in life's battles.
Josiah Latta was born on April 21,1836, in
Perry County,Ohio, where he spent his youth.
On March 31,1859, he was married to Elizabeth
Greer, the union then formed remaining unbroken
for more than 59 years and 6 months. On December
24,1861, he enlisted in the Union army, Co.C,
62nd Ohio. He participated in fifteen engagements,
all of which are on record in his discharge papers.
He was mustered out December 23, 1864.
Mr.& Mrs. Latta came west in the exodus of the
sixties, settling on a farm south of Viroqua in
October 1866. In September 1892, they moved to the
city where they have since resided. Mr Latta joined
the Methodist church at Brookville 36 years ago. He
was previously a member of the United Brethren Church.
In recent years he was a member of the Methodist church
of this city. Of the eleven children born of Mr.and Mrs.
Latta eight survive: They are: Thomas W. of Iowa;
Charles B. of Brookville; Mrs. Wm. Edwards of LaCrosse;
Mrs. John Hall of Cashton; Albert P. of Vancouver; Mrs.
S.J. McHugo of Minnesota; and Mrs.E.Carr and Minnie of
Viroqua. Mr Latta passed peacefully away on Sunday,
November 10,1919 in the 83 year of his age.
The family is thankful for sympathy extended them and
for assistance in caring for the deceased.
(obit. from unknown newspaper)
(I have him as Josiah Latta of Branch 29. Don't know if
Jesse was his name too or not. He was the son of Edward D.
Latta.)
Hope someone in his family finds this.
