Sue,
Your latest tidbit of info sounds the most plausible to me. Mary could
very possibly be the 2nd wife. It would be way too easy then! Oh, I hope
you are right. Meanwhile, James and Nancy moved to Limestone Co. around
1816-1817 according to land records. James also held land titles in
Madison Co and resided there after 1831 until his death in 1860. I've
checked the Madison Co. marriage records for Latta and only found 2 - James
and his 2nd wife, Marsilla Ray, in 1836; and an Ann Latta who married a Mr.
Christian around 1823. I must caveat this by saying that this info came
from transcribed records, not the originals. I have to go down to the
Madison Courthouse and verify the marriage and probate records on several
of my relatives due to transcription errors (like mistaking a "W" for an
"M", long story--don't ask!) so I'll add Mary to my list of people to
review. You can probably mark off Morgan Co from your list of potentials.
I haven't found a Latta there, yet. Your best bet is probably in the
counties north and west of Limestone. If I find anything I'll definitely
give you a "heads up"!
Cindy

Limestone Co., AL. I have received information from another researcher on
the Graham line who thinks that Mary Lattie is Samuel Graham's 2nd wife.
My ancestor who was supposed to be Samuel and Mary's son was born abt. 1811
which makes Mary a mighty young mother according to the dates on her
tombstone. She was born in 1798. The birthdates of the children range
from abt. 1811-1825. Then the last 3 born are 1834, 1835, 1839. Strange
that there would be a nine year gap with no kids isn't it and there were
nine kids, possibly ten. Cindy, when did James and Nancy move to Limestone
Co.? Maybe we need to start looking for a marriage record in surrounding
counties for Mary and Samuel. I haven't found one in Limestone Co. Some
of the land that Samuel bought was located in Madison Co. Samuel was
supposed to be in Washington Co., TN before he came to Limestone Co., AL
but so far I've not found any indication th!

Mary is indeed the 2nd wife. Samuel died about 1839 yet she lived until
1887. That would explain why Mary signed as a Latta in 1833. What do you
think?
