Services set Wednesday
for Rapides District Attorney Charlie Wagner
Services are set for Wednesday for Charles F. "Charlie" Wagner, who served
as Rapides Parish district attorney since 1985.
Wagner, 68, of Alexandria died Sunday, Dec. 3, 200, in Rapides Regional
Medical Center after a long bout with cancer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. B.
David Brooks and The Revs. John G. Alley, David Boothe and Anthony Mangun
officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville, under
direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
He was a lifelong resident of Rapides Parish and a graduate of Menard
Central High School. He attended Louisiana College and was a U.S. Navy
veteran stationed aboard the USS New Jersey. He was a former Louisiana state
trooper.
He received his law degree from Louisiana State University in 1964. He began
his law career with a private practice in Pineville in 1964. He continued
his practice in Alexandria from 1986 until his death. He was elected
district attorney in 1984 and took office in 1985. At the time of his death,
he was serving his third term. He was also special assistant attorney
general.
His memberships include the Louisiana State Bar Association,
Alexandria/Pineville Bar Association, National District Attorneys
Association, Red River Delta Law Enforcement Association, Oliver Lodge F&AM
#84, Abe Hinson Lodge F&AM #472 and the Louisiana Cattlemen's Association.
He was president of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association from
1991-1992 and had been a member of the Board of Directors since 1985.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace William and Anna Lawrence
Wagner.
Survivors include his wife, Toretha "Teecy" Deason Wagner of Alexandria; two
sons, Ronald H. Wagner of Alexandria and Charles F. Wagner Jr. of Boyce;
four daughters, Terry Wagner Nims and Charla Gail Wagner Glod, both of
Lafayette, and Stacey Wagner Leglue and Melissa Wagner Chadwick, both of
Alexandria; two brothers, W. Lawrence Wagner of Florien and Rand Wagner of
Lake Charles; one sister, Bella Wagner Hidgon of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and 12
grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be E. Pete Adams, Paula Brady, Attorney General Richard
Ieyoub, James C. Downs, B. Dexter Ryland, Jesse "Pete" Terrell, Richard
Landry, William M. Wolfe, Jerry W. Deason, Jr., Cloyse Bonnette, Rubin
Henry, Richard Crouch, Hardin Lewis, Sheriff William Earl Hilton, Roger C.
Black, Roger J. Breedlove, Loren M. Lampert, Jack Holt and Ralph Gill.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home and from
8:30 a.m. until time of services Wednesday in the church.

NOTE: Charlie Wagner was the great grandson of MARTIN BAGLEY and ROSA LYONS
of Ramsey Plantation (1870-1900), Vermilion Parish, LA. Wagner's
grandmother, CATHERINE EUPHEMIE BAGLEY (1883-1942) was born on Ramsey
Plantation in Vermilion Parish.
