I'm looking for a possible connection to my William STEPHENS, b. about
1780 could be Maryland or Virginia. He settled in Louisiana, St
Martinville Parish (at that time), where he married Rachel Walsh CLARK.
He died in Henry, LA.

Spons of John CLARK (James & Esther COMSTOCK) on 4 Jul 1809.
George WELSH b 1814, s/o Jacob WELSH & Susan ROBERT (Ben & Eliz COLE)
was sponsored by George STEPHENS and his sister Mary STEPHENS, who was
then the widow of John CLARK.
IF correct, Susan ROBERT is Rachel's aunt. Rachel's husband is brother
to the sponsors? (though both bros. have "Wm" in their name). Aunt
Susan was married after Rachel was named; but possible family
connection not yet discovered.

William STEPHENS and Rachel CLARKE's children were:

1. John Vachell STEPHENS, b. 14 Oct 1820, m.#1 to Irene LEMAIRE
2. Rachel STEPHENS, m. John COLLINS
3. Julia STEPHENS, married Pierre Dudoit, then James Taylor SMITH
4. Mary Elizabeth STEPHENS, m. Silas BRADSHAW
5. Ann STEPHENS, m. William WINDHAM of Miss.?

John STEPHENS m.#2 to Josephine TRAHAN
Children:
1. Laura STEPHENS, m. to John BURT
2. Emily Ella STEPHENS, b. 22 Jan 1864 m. to Seth Howard SHEPHERD,
b.1862

The family tradition tellS that William STEPHENS' family was English.
The names of the daughters' husbands sound so very English and so I
believe they must have some from another state other than Louisiana
where most in the area were of French descent.


William STEPHENS also may have a connection to an Anne STEPHENS, b abt
1770 in PA and came by way of Maryland to LA m. to William
O'Brien/OBRAYEN, BRIEN, BRYAN and then a 2nd m. to James McMULLIN.
OBRIEN/STEPHENS m.#1, children:
1. Harriett m. to Jacques LeMaire (William STEPHENS was listed as a
witness in this couple's marriage)
2. Jean Suzanne, m. to John LEE
McMULLIN/STEPHENS m.#2 CHILDREN;
1. James McMULLIN, b. 6 Feb 1820

I'm interested in anybody's line that connects with these people.
