Jim Bevill, 50, Dies Of Heart Attack; Funeral Thursday
Well Known Veteran of World War I Succumbs Wednesday
Funeral services were held here at 4 p.m. Thursday for James Riley Bevill, 50
year old World War I veteran who died of a heart attack at 4 o'clock Wednesday
afternoon. Rites were conducted at the Bevill residence on Main Street with
the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating and
interment was in the family lot at the local cemetery with Hixson Bros.,
funeral directors, in charge.
Pallbearers were Bryant Sholars, Harry Fuller, E. E. Prince, H. A. Porter,
Sr., Lee J. Grigsby, and Arnold Sikes.
The deceased was born at St. Maurice on May 4, 1897. He is survived by his
mother, Mrs. Maude Bevill; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Bevill of Winnfield and Mrs.
Philip Lohman of New York City; four brothers, R. D. Bevill, Jr., Winnfield,
Jared S. Bevill and Joe P. Bevill, of Kilgore, Tex., and Ben K. Bevill of
Refugio, Tex.
He had lived for many years in Winnfield where he had a host of friends.
