T. N. Hyde, Fire Chief Died Here Saturday

Funeral Services Are Held At Baptist Church Last Saturday Afternoon

Tom N. Hyde, Winnfield's fire chief, died at 3 o'clock last Saturday afternoon
after almost a week's illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon
at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. A. H. Cullen officiating. Burial
was in Winnfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were J. E. Carter, W. H. Peters, W. C.
Willis, J. E. Nugent, Frank Grigsby, and B. W. Baker.

Mr. Hyde is survived by his widow, who was Miss Isla McMahon of Selma, the
daughter of A. McMahon, of Winnfield, and three small children, Vernon, 8,
Genae, 5, and Thomas, 15 months; his father, J. T. Hyde of Tide; four
brothers, Albert Hyde, Winnfield, Walter, John, and Sam Hyde of Tide, and his
sister, Mrs. A. C. Cavender, of Bernice. He was a nephew of J. M. Hyde
of Winnfield and a cousin of Mrs. W. C. Colvin and Mrs. A. L. McDonald of
Winnfield.

Mr. Hyde had served Winnfield as fire chief three years, and as utility man,
one year. He has been a resident of Winnfield about seven years. He was
just 32 years old at the time of his death. He was a member of the Modern
W. O. W.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were J. T., Walter, John
and Sam Hyde of Tide; Mrs. Cavender, Bernice, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Conathy.

(Tide, La. was located in the southeast corner of Winn Parish east of Atlanta,
La., near what is now the Grant Parish line)
