I appreciate all of the work and much more detailed information
(than many other county/parish sites) that Gregg, Peggy and many
others have contributed. I'm curious if anyone has seen a complete
list of pre-1900 Winn Parish schools, their locations, and their years
of operation. I'm working on a family history for I.B. (Buddy)
Payne [b. 1879] and his wife Martha Young Payne. Apparently
both of my grandparents attended at least some school. He probably
attended school near Gaar's Mill or New Hope and she at Hudson in
the 1880s and 1890s. Any information that others may have concerning
Buddy and Martha, his brothers and sisters (Helen, Joel, Brack, Ed,
Lula, and Jim Payne), as well as her family (the Youngs and Burnetts)
would be welcomed. I've tracked down considerable information already
through the help of Gregg and others, but I'm sure much more is out
there that could be useful for my project. Thanks.
