Hi to all:
The hours of the Winnfield Family History Center have been changed to
Sunday 1-4pm
Tuesday 6:30 pm - until (My shift)
Thursday 10am - 4 pm
Sometimes the "limited, volunteer" staff closes early and also when weather
is bad, so you might want to call before going, or even call the director the
day before to let her know you will be there. The FHC number is 628-6945.
The FHC Director, Mildred Murray's number is 628-4254.
There is a lot of census as well as marriage, etc. records for North
Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama in stock. There are over 200 microfilm
in stock and quite about the same of the microfiche books. That makes
500-1000 "genealogy" books available. Come on my shift and ask to see some
of them. I'll teach you how to access the basic collections that are
available only at the FHC. Learn a whole new way of working at a different
genealogy library. Use "original" courthouse, etc. records, not secondary
"typed" books... but there are lots of both!!!
There is "not" a film/fiche photocopy machine, but we keep hoping. The FHC
must have 20 patrons a week and 20 film orders a month for about 4-6 months
before a reader/printer is allowed. (Cost to rent a microfilm from the Salt
Lake Family History Library is $3.25 per month. Microfiche is 15 cents each.)
The good news is that the Winnfield FHC is one of 30 test sites around the US
for internet access.
