To All Members of Both Lists:
An idea just popped into my head, which is a rare occurrence, but this
time, probably a good idea. Annette's fire today made me think of it.
Many of you are no doubt like me, procrastinators, but, I do deem my
genealogy important enough to back up my Family Tree Maker File from
time to time, and take the disks (4+) to my office in the courthouse and
lock a copy up in my desk and another in my private evidence locker.
Getting a safe deposit box at our local banks is not always easy. Some
folks have had theirs since the banks opened or were remodeled and often
there's a long waiting list.
For the sake of all our members, what would be wrong with purchasing a
fireproof safe of some size just for this purpose? Or, what about us
renting our own box at one of the banks, if they have one, and we could
store our disks there. We're talking about $40 a year. The only
problem with the renting would be if we get too many for the box size.
We could get a fireproof safe for a couple of hundred bucks and it would
hold many more disks. Plus, I think, and I may be wrong, but I think,
there is a sprinkler system up at our headquarters.
Just a thought and one I'll forget before next meeting.
