Tammy,
Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield is open and the current building they
are in dates back to the 1950s. The old Gov. O. K. Allen home sold to
the Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in the late 30s or early 40s and later
sold to Edmonds Funeral Home which still operates it but has few
funerals there. Another funeral home was located on the corner of Main
and Grove and went out of business prior to the 1950s but the building
remained until the 1970s. Walsh Funeral Home was located on Center St.,
and is now a residence. The above were all "white" funeral homes.
Winnfield Funeral Home, formerly Ben Johnson's Funeral Home, caters to
the African-American community and is still in operation.

> Hi, Does anyone know of a funeral home in Winnfield, La. that was/is haunted. How about just a list of funeral homes that was around in the 1940's-1950's. I have a story that goes back to the 1950's. E-mail me if you'd like to hear it, or if I should just post it.
