I recently found these tidbits in my quest for info on my LAWRENCE line in Canada. Thought they might be of some use to somebody.

14 March 1832.

In Edwardsburgh on Friday evening, 24th inst (Feb 1832). John LAWRENCE Sr, in the 76th year of his age. He came to Upper Canada in the year 1786, as a U.E.Loyalist, and partook of all the privations and hardships of the first settlers of this Province. He married the widow of the late Rev Mr.,Embury from the North of Ireland, the first Methodist Preacher that ever landed and formed a church at New York. His Mother is still living in Kararaska.L.C. aged 103 years (Grenville Gazette).

LAWRENCE. Mrs Mary was born on Staten Island New York. Towards the end of the Revolutionary War she married Captain John Lawrence and moved with him to Saint John New Brunswick. In 1816 they moved to Yonge Street in Richmond Hill. They raised 7 sons and 4 daughters 10 of whom are still alive. Peter Lawrence of Yonge Street, Toronto being one of the sons. Mr Lawrence died in Dec 1821 and Mrs Lawrence died 18 Sep 1842 in her 77th year in the township of Vaughan.
