I am related to some southern Lawrences too.
My Lawrence family came to VA from ?? The first one that we have any
knowledge about is Richard Lawrence, b abt 1733, probably in VA. He married
(1) "Unknown". Speculation is that she may have been named Susannah, Sarah
or Sally, and her maiden name may have been Claiborne. The Lawrence,
Claiborne, Burch, and Harris families had lived near one another in VA and
NC and had intermarried.
He married (2) Isabella Ross, b 1746 in VA. Her father was John Ross of VA.
Children from the first marriage to "Unknown" included:
Benjamin, b abt 1751, VA or NC
Joseph, b 11-1-1755, Albemarle Co, VA, d 1840 in Green Co., TN
James, b abt 1757, VA or NC, married Frances ??, d 1830, Union Co., SC
Claiborne, b abt 1759, Albemarle Co, VA, m Mary Hudspeth in 1785, d 1816 in
Morgan Co., GA

The son, James Lawrence, is my ancestor. He settled in Union Co., SC and
had the following children:
Sarah, b 1785, m Henry Yatt Littlejohn
Euphemia, b abt 1787, m Stephen Pearson
Frances, b abt 1783, m ?? Jefferies
Susannah, b 1801, m ?? Blakey
Claiborne, b 1797, m Catherine Guyton. They moved to AL
John B., b abt 1806, m Catherine ??
Washington, b abt 1808
Greene, b 1802, married Susannah Morris from Rutherford Co, NC. They moved
to AL and then to Texas, where Greene died in 1871 in Jefferson, Marion Co.,
TX on a trip back to AL.
Richard, b 1810, d 1831

Greene had a son named Thomas Jefferson Lawrence, b 1828, who married
Dorinda Freeze from Shelby Co., AL. They moved with family and friends into
Texas around the Rains Co. area and then on to Mansfield, De Soto Parish,
LA, where they settled in about 1857.
Thomas Jefferson Lawrence's sister, Frances, married Dorinda's brother,
Jacob Freeze and they settled in Rains Co., TX.
Other siblings of Greene and Frances were:
Jane, b 1840
Agnes, b 1841
F. Marion, b 1845
George W., b 1837
Sarah, b 1843
Caroline, b 1847
James, b 1835
Some of these children were born in Pickens Co, AL
Does anyone have anymore information about any of these Lawrence kin?
