Capt. James Lawrence married Julia Montandevert in 1809 and had a daughter
Mary born in 1811 and a son James who died shortly after birth. His
daughter married Lt. William Preston Griffin, USN and died shortly after
giving birth to a baby girl in Florence, Italy. No one is a direct
descendant of Captain Lawrence who died 4 Jun 1813. The same was passed
down in my family and when I attended the U.S. Naval Academy and mentioned
that fact I was quickly!! corrected and reprimanded to better check my facts.
