This tie of Lawson to Harlan Co. KY is interesting.

As you know we have a Paschal Lawson b: 1813 abt. @ TN first found in the 1836 Hawkins Co., TN tax list.

I have wondered if Paschal's name was
1) Just a name
2) Maternal family name/surname
3) Paternal family name
4) Named after a prominent person

There were only a handfull of Paschals in Hawkins Co. during the early 1800s of an age after which Paschal may be named which include:

Paschal Buram HAMBLEN (b: 27 Feb 1788 @ Lee Co., VA or Hawkins, Tennessee s/o Daniel H. HAMBLEN and Sarah DAVIDSON (Daniel H.)
[Paschal Hamlin is found in 1810 VA, Lee Co. Tax List]

Paschal Hamblin BURUM (b: 27 May 1801 Rogersville, Hawkins, TN s/o Henry BURUM and Mary MILLER)

Paschal Gale HAMBLEN (b: 3 Sep 1810 @ Lee, Virginia s/o Charles HAMBLEN and Mary "Polly" HAMBLEN

Now this Alexander (P.?) Lawson was in Harlan Co., KY.

I searched for Harlan Co., KY and came up with a Paschal Hamblin reference

Deed Book A - Extracts
Harlan County KY Court records - Pages 101 - 200

page 123/124
John A FLACK, Absalum CALLISON & Anna, his wife, and John KINCAID to Benjamin HARRIS (All listed as of the "Commonwealth of Kentucky") 18 Jul 1825 for $60 - 400 acre grant by the Commonwealth of Virginia to John LATHAM
by patent dated 11 Mar 1791 located on both sides of Cranks Gap Creek Witnesses: James FARMER, Pascal HAMBLIN and Solomon BURKHART

Darla's mention of Osborn(e), Johnson and Helton surnames of Alexander's neighbours is also interesting. These are certainly familiar names in Stokes Co., NC/Hawkins Co., TN.
