DEC 1886
The trial of JOHN MORRISON charged with resisting arrest and shooting with
intent to kill, and of SHERIFF BOYD, charged with killing WILLIAM MORRISON
before Judge Anderson, yesterday, was a most interesting and exciting
procedure. although the day was cold and disagreeab le, numbers of people
came to town to witness the trial, and when the case was called the Circuit
Court room was filled with anxious listeners. The case presents a three
cornered legal fight. County attorney Payne appears for the Commonwealth
Landa and Clark for Boyd, and the Felands and R.W. Henry for Morrison.
Under an agreement all the witnesses were excluded from the court room after
being sworn. The cases against Boyd and Morrison will both be submitted
under the testimony, as all the witnessess were claimed by the three parties
involved. the evidence will be completed by noon today, when the oratory
will set in. All the lawyers are going to speak, and considering the
sensational character of the case, an immense crowd will be on hand. We
will give the evidence in full in our next. Yesterday the mother and wife
of Morrison were present. The former is an elderly lady of clean cut
features, keen black eye and a handsom face. The wife was quite
affectionate to the prisoner, and when ordered out of the court room with
the other witnesses, put her arms ab out his neck and hissed him several
times with much tenderness and feeling.
