Henderson, KY. Feb. 11 - Fred Welch, a miner, was stabbed in
the heart and instantly killed by George Lynch, a fellow miner,
in Utopia mines, 16 miles southeast of here at 6 o'clock this
morning. There were no eye-witnesses.

Lynch says he and Welch quarreled over a coal car and that
Welch attempted to strike him with a pick, whereupon he
stabbed him. Lynch gave himself up and will be brought here
and jailed. The dead man was 25 years old and has a wife and
one child. George Lynch, the slayer, is 22 years old and single.
