High Life Scandal
Bowling Green Specialist Elopes With Strange Woman
Bowling Green, Ky. March 04 -
The town is enjoying a scandal in high life. Dr. J.L. Bass, a specialist
who came here some time ago from South Carolina has eloped with a strange
woman who followed him here from his southern home. Dr. Bass' wife was Miss
Emma Lucas, of Carrollton, S.C. and the couple came here with the highest
possible recommendations. They were admitted into the most exclusive
circles of society and he especially made the most of it. His wife is an
accomplished and handsome young woman, and was more than welcome here.
Nothing is known of the other woman except that Dr. Bass had known her in
his former home, where there was some unpleasant talk about them. The
guilty couple are supposed to have gone to South America. The scandal
involves prominent people in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and this city
and other points in the state. Dr. Bass deserted his wife two weeks ago.
The matter was kept secret. Mrs. Bass, who is a delicate woman, has since
been prostrated, and tomorrow will be taken to Nashville Sanitarium for
treatment. She will be cared for by her husband's brother who is a resident
of Hopkinsville, this State.
Mrs. Bass Brings Suit
Bowling Green, Ky. March 7
Mrs. Emma L. Bass, whose husband, Dr. J.L. Bass, deserted her a few days ago
and eloped with another woman, today filed suit for divorce. She charges
desertion and adultery. The petition recites that Dr. Bass met the other
woman at Nashville and alleges they were living in adultery. The name of
the correspondnet is not given. Mrs. Bass was today removed to Nashville
sanitarium for treatment.
