WILLIAM J JONES
Last Wednesday the funeral rites were held for another fine citizen of Trigg
county, William J JONES, who was born February 20, 1857 died January 10,
1944 after a long illness. In early life Mr Jones was married to Lou
CRUTEand to this union were born two sons, Curt and Louie. His first wife
died and he was later married to George Alpha NUNN to this union were born
two sons and two daughters, Iva Pearl Gordon, who passed away in 1915 at
Golden Pond; Mattie Pugh now of Sturgis, Ky; Noah Jones of Trigg county and
Joe Hoy Jones of Marion, Ky. The mother of these children passed away in
1927 and Mr Jones was again united in marriage to Mrs Tamm Oakley who
proceeded him in death. A fourth marriage was to Mrs Ambie Leneave who
survives. Interment was made near his home place at the Cumberland Church
cemetery with Rev J.J. Jenkins officiating. Services were held from the
Cumberland Church. Mr Jones was a native Trigg countian and lived his
entire lifetime on the farm he was born, having resided in the home for 65
years. He was a successful operator of this farm and was especially
interested in the development of fine live stock. Besides his wife and
children there survive five grandsons, Edward Jones, Evansville, In; Edgar
Jones, Huntington, Tn; Everett Jones, Murray Ky; Elmer Reed Jones, Tulsa
Okla. and Conrad Jones of the US. Navy now stationed at Jacksonville,
Florida.

JOHN C. JONES
John C. JONES, a respected citizen of this county, died at his home at
Center Furnace the 30th day of December, 1904. His remains were brought to
Canton by his sons, William and Cash JONES, on Sunday, January 1st. The
remains were taken into the Union Church where Brother Charlie HERNDON
preached a good funeral sermon to a company of his old friends and
acquaintances. He was then taken to the Canton cemetery where he was buried
beside his wife. Brother Jones was a native of Christian county. He was born
March 1, 1826. Nearly 79 years old when he died. He moved to Trigg county in
1846, and engaged in school teaching. He would go to New Orleans
occasionally on a flat boat. He joined Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in 1852,
and for some time acted as clerk. He moved back to Christian county in 1862
and joined Sinking Fork Church and lived in that church eleven years. When
he came back to Trigg he was a member of Canton Church until he left there
for Furnace and died a member of the Cumberland Church. He married a Miss
ANDERSONin 1849. She died at the ferry house at Canton in 1877. He married a
Miss BARNES in 1892, whom he leaves with several children. He has three
living sons by his first wife, and they are all married and have families,
who will mourn for him. Brother JONES made many friends while he lived at
the ferry house opposite Canton. He was a kind and accommodating to all
