Ancestral File and on-line pedigree submissions (PRF) are separate. All of
the programs, IGI, AF, etc. are for various reasons incomplete at present,
but every effort is being made to put all the data into the hands of
researchers. If you are really worried, (the case of the Ancestral File) it
is easy to resubmit the information and include a note, where specified on
the disk, that it had been previously submitted.

We have just previewed of some materials not yet ready for release. One of
the projects is the Pedigree Resource File(PRF). It is a collection of
lineage-linked pedigrees from Internet submissions. No attempt has been
made to relate one submission to another as the Ancestral File does. This
has some advantages. They said they have 5 million names yet to go on these
disks (increasing daily). When they have finished 5 disks the master index
will be functional. The department has so much going that we marveled at
the ambitions they have and the power the computer has created. No dates
are ever given for completion of any projects or updates.

Much of what I have looked at on the disks that are ready is incomplete but
the program (Progeny Family Explorer) has some very good features. I
expected to find the life work of someone who had carefully found all the
ancestors I had not located, a familiar notion in which I was soon
disillusioned.
Instead, as indicated by the sources fields, many submitters may have
downloaded pedigrees from other sites (Family Tree Maker, etc.) and
submitted them to PRF. This method of presenting your information (This Is
What I Have - What Can You Add?) is fairly straightforward and perhaps the
most important feature is that the submitter's name, address and Email
address (where available) are shown. There are many, many links that are
only the names without even estimated dates or general locations, but I
like the way the data can be sorted and expect to find better ways to
utilize the information. Perhaps this is a time when I should be
submitting the best records I have instead of worrying about what
information I can or cannot find.
