Li Ann Lee:

I am a high counciler in the Emmett, Idaho stake, about 50 miles north of
Boise. We have 3 FHC's, 2 in branches, and 1 at the stake center. We are
spread out over a large area and have problems with snow during the winters.
I have been on the high council about 4 months and my stewardship includes
Family History. The major complaint I have heard from our staffs are about
not being led by the priesthood. To attempt to solve this issue, we are
having a High Priest Group Leader (HPGL) training seminar this Thursday
night. At the seminar we will review the stewardship of HPGL's with respect
to Family History and Family Extraction. The "assignment" they will receive
from the Stake Presidency is as follows: November: 1. Call Ward FH
Consultants where they are missing. 2. Verify that all Ward FH consultants
are trained.
December: 1. Hold a FH Class during Sunday School. The attendees will be
the HPGL's, their counselers, Stake High Coucilors living in the ward, and
their wives. The goal is to gain testimonies, become leaders of FH within
their wards, and gain knowledge of the process. An additional goal is to
find at least one ancestor apiece that needs temple work, and take the name
through the FH processes and the temple ordinances. This is just a start.
I feel that when we don't magnify our callings, it is not because we are
"goats", but that we have just not yet been trained in our callings. Once
we understand our stewardships, and are somewhat trained, we typically do
all we can to magnify our callings. HPGL's are also very busy with their
callings and need to understand how to magnify this portion of their
stewardships.

We need to remember that the main reason for Family History work is not to
build family trees, it is to allow the worthy dead to be exalted.

Hope this helps.

With great love for our fellow sheep and shepherds, on both sides of the
veil.

Gary
