Subject: [LDS-WC-L] Stake Missionary Meeting
Date: Sun, 02 Sep 2001 09:08:07 -0700
I gave my presentation this morning (7:30 am)to our Stake Presidency, Stake
Mission Presidency, Ward Mission Leaders, and the Full-Time Missionary Zone
Leader (& companion). They meet once a month. In fact, the Stake President
didn't know we were going to be there (bad communication) and almost kicked
us out before we started. Luckily, it was confirmed we were to be there.
Anyway, the 45-minute meeting was highly successful. We got great feedback
and lots of good questions.
First, my high council representative spoke about 5 minutes on reactivating
members and getting new members to the temple in 90 days from their baptism.
Then I showed the 9-minute talk by Elder Eyring on the 4 May 2000
"Training for Family History Leaders" video. Then I followed up with a
power point presentation about getting the ward family history consultants
to go out with the stake missionaries and home teachers to give the 5th new
member discussion. Then I gave out handouts: the new beginning research
brochure, 5th discussion summary, quotes from Elder Eyring's talk and a page
about working together with the missionaries and the fhc's.
Elder Eyring's talk was so powerful. Nothing has ever touched our Stake
President before when it comes to family history. He repeated over and over
how impressed he was with it. And now he sounds very supportive. I know
that if you don't have the support of your stake president, you won't have
much success with other support (bishop, high priest's, etc.)
Our ward family history consultants will now be expected to attend ward
council and go out once or twice a month (or more) to active and inactive
members homes to present the 5th new member discussion. What better
practice then to try it out on members.
Here's one of Elder Eyring's quotes from the video: "When you help a member
trying to do family history, don't see that single person. See hundreds and
perhaps thousands of their ancestors who will be praying to be found and
liberated. And think of the faithful missionaries who have waited with
them. As you do, you will feel not only the urgency of your service but
confidence that prayers, some from this side of the veil and more on the
other, will be answered."
Anyway, if anyone wants a copy of my presentation, please e-mail me.
