Subject: [LDS-WC-L] 1930 Census
Date: Fri, 1 Mar 2002 06:48:42 -0700
Last year the following came out regarding the 1930 Census:
"THe National Archives has announced that the 1930 Census will be opened
to the public on 1 Apr 2002. The opening will take the form of releasing
copies of the 1930 Census schedules on microfilm for public viewing at
the main branch of the National Archives in Washington, DC and in 13
regional branches located in major cities across the country. Included
wil be the 1930 population schedules on 2668 rolls of 35 mm microfilm for
all states, territories and possessions of the US." Contents include 32
columns within 12 main categories: Place of Abode, Name, Relation, Home
Data, Personal Description, Education,Mother Tongue, Citizenship,
Occupation and Industry, Employment, Veterans, Soundex exists for the
following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana,
Mississippi, NC, SC, Tenessee, Virginia.
My opinion from what I have read and heard is that the 1930 Census will
be the last BEST census for genealogical purposes. There was nothing in
this material about the FHL in SL and when they would receive the Census.
HOpe this helps the requests. Helena in Idaho
