still here too...
Right now, we are BUSY with the 4H fairs...
Our HPGL decided we needed to return into the community and so he got a
booth at both local county 4h fairs and of course he included the FHC.
As I pull double-duty as a director and a consultant, like many others,
we've just had little time to do too much emailing other than immediate
needs.
Today is the 1st night at the fair and I'm dying to be there but have to
give the others the room they need to feel a part of this activity. We had
2 enthusiastic young men show up to help.
Something unique about this activity... One of our bishop's counselors
suggested we use the descendancy chart of John Lathrop. He had read or
heard somewhere that this John Lathrop was the ancestor of several
presidents of the USA as well as several presidents of the church (including
Joseph Smith).
I didn't have much success singling out who he was talking about by using
AF, but just typing in the name and doing an internet search brought me to a
website where the descendants were listed and were downloadable!!!
So, I checked them out and found the name of the lady who had been
'bothering' me since February "Sarah BLACKFORD"... So... we created (with
some work) an hourglass chart of Sarah blackford's ancestry and descendants,
adding to them some of the more famous lines I could recognize. The poster
is about 3 x 4 and the last row is 12 pages (width) long... and include most
of the county's ancestors... It is so neat!!!
Dianne made a wedding cake as a 'conversation starter' and right in the
middle of the booth we have placed her replica of the Christus. It's
incredible!
We hope this will bring people who are not just interested in learning who
their ancestors are but also those who might be interested in hearing the
truth...
Our small town has been dying for several years and our ward is aging and
the youth not returning... We really need a boost...
We hope this helps.
SO... that's what I'm going to be busy doing for the next 2 weeks... After
that... I'm taking a break (= Our daughter is getting married in August to
a Utah boy... (=
It's going to be interesting...
