Good day to the group:
I am a new subscriber and have been 'lurking' for about two weeks. I
have enjoyed the sharing that goes on in the group. I have learned
quite a bit from you already.

I am not the Ward Consultant, but I volunteer in the Stake FHC twice
a month. I have a passion for genealogy and Temple work. I serve on
the High Council, but have no responsibilities for either on the
Council, so you can take what I say with the proverbial grain of salt.

One consideration that should be taken into account when charging
patrons for Internet use (in my opinion) is the Church's tax exempt
status. Here in our Stake, our Stake President is very protective of
that. For example, when we provide the building for a joint
genealogy seminar (with the local genealogy society) we cannot pay
speakers nor sell lunches (which are provided free by the Relief
Society). We do charge a minimal amount to cover expenses. The same
is true for the services at the FHC; we charge for film and fiche
rental and paper, but just enough to cover expenses.

So, again just in my opinion, if you charge, it could only be to
recover costs. In my FHC we are just now getting the Internet for
use and we have no plans on charging patrons.
