Godfrey Library Puts Index to LDS Pioneers Online

The Godfrey Memorial Library (Middletown, Connecticut) is pleased
to announce that it has indexed thousands of biographical sketches
of LDS Pioneers directly into its online library catalog. This FREE
service is available to researchers via the Internet, from any computer.
Researchers are now able to quickly find biographical sketches of
their pioneer LDS ancestors.

To search the library's online catalog see: www.Godfrey.org

This FREE service is a quick way to find a biographical sketch of
your pioneer ancestor. Simply type the pioneer's name into the search
screen of the online catalog and see if there has been a published
biography of your ancestor and what source it was printed in.

With the citation you can look up the reference at your local library
or request the Godfrey Library to send you a copy. As part of this
Connecticut library's extended month long celebration of Pioneer
Day there is no charge for photocopies or postage for requests made
during the months of July and August.

The Library adds more than 4,000 index citations to its online catalog
each month. Indexed sources include "Pioneer Women of Faith & Fortitude"

(Daughters of Utah Pioneers, 1998); Conquerors of the West: Stalwart
Mormon Pioneers (Sons of the UT Pioneers, 1999) and similar
publications.

Both the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Sons of the Utah
Pioneers have supported the Godfrey Memorial Library in creating
this index by supply copies of their publications to be indexed.

The Godfrey Memorial Library (Middletown, CT) is unique in that it
is the only chartered public library in the country whose sole mission
is to provide a genealogy and local history research library. The
Library was founded in 1947 and its current building was opened in
1952. The Library has financed its operation by its energetic publishing
program. It has published well over 200 books and receives no public
funding. Researchers from across the country come to research there
and use its extensive online genealogical holdings. The Library adds
more than 2 million pages of newsprint monthly and at least one new
database a week to its online collection.

The Library's Director, Thomas Jay Kemp (Hartford CT Stake) is the HP
Group Leader in his ward. He also serves on the Board of Directors of
the Utah Genealogical Association.
