Joyce, Good question!
It would be helpful to know the country of concern. The worse case scenario
would be DUPLICATION of temple ordinances.
Research papers are available FREE at familysearch.org for most countries.
They give "research tips" and "guidance" in researching out family names.
Also tell how and what types or records are available and how to access
these records.
If it is difficult to find vital statistics (birth, marriage, death) perhaps
searching out church or parish records, hospital records, funeral offices,
cemetery OFFICES, newspapers, and of course census records, etc. might help.
My husband works in the funeral industry and I have found records in this
area helpful when I could not find information through vital statistics.
Cemetery "offices" as well. Newspapers give notices of births, marriages,
deaths etc.
I think too often we stop short at vital statistics and over look other
valuable sources which will lead to the information wanted.
We want to ensure there will be no duplication of temple work and might have
to DIG a little DEEPER <pun here> to find the information we want. We have
a family joke ...... my husband BURIES them...........and I DIG them UP.
I am sure others on this list will have good suggestions. But personally I
think she needs to search a bit more before submitting. The beauty of
searching other records is we become closer to the person we want to do this
sacred work for; they become people <not just names>!
