Reservation Indians are often some of the best documented people in
America...not that reservations go back very far, relatively speaking. You will need
to know both the Anglo name and the Indian name whenever possible, and
sometimes they show up in Native American records, and sometimes in American
records. (I just was looking at a census that had anglo names for the husband,
wife and children, but gave the Native American names for the mothers of both
the parents who were living with them in that census year.)

The FHC has a good booklet out for doing Native American research, available
through the distribution center. When and where possible, write both names
down, anglo and Indian. The records are not always consistent in every
tribe, and may use one name one time and the other name the other time.

Fortunately, prayer helps.
