Hi Janet,
I posted this information a couple of years ago...it's the estate of David Ledford Sr, born ca 1797. David's wife, Jane, was still living as mentioned in the estate. His son David Jr, was dead already so his wife Nancy Dulcena Hicks Ledford was named as heir. I left the spelling as in the papers.
These papers should answer the question of David Jr, Big Jason and Center being brothers, as well as their sisters Elizabeth and Lucinda.
As for David Jr., he was killed by renegade Confederate soldiers in Polk County, TN at the end of 1863. His service records show him in service till AWOL in Nov 1863. He was hung or dragged. I got the year from TVA records, otherwise I would assume 1864. Maybe it was early 1864. His last child, Luola/Luvena, was born late 1864-early 1865, posthumously. Dulcena called her "Luola Independence Sweet Union Forever" in protest of his murder by the renegade Confederates. Her daughter Julia Ann was told that her father wouldn't choose sides in the war and that was why he was dragged by the neck. Apparently there were some bad feelings about the soldiers in the area. Some descendants were even under the impression David served for the union. His estate may have started earlier, but there are no records in the estate files for David before 1868.
Anyways, I hope this helps.
BTW, you asked about the death certificate for Center Ledford, I had it, I may still have it in a box. I do remember the cause of death listed as "Cancer of the Foot"
