Tony
Crafton St is still in Leicester but is now divided into east and
west by the St Mathew's Way ring road development. It was in the Wharf St
area of Leicester, which did not have the best of reputations. I have book
published by Leicester City Council called "Wharf
St Revisited". The only comment on Crafton St I can find in the book is
"Crafton Street Synagogue" listed as 13 Crafton St from around 1877 but
replaced to Highfields district in 1898. No photos of Crafton St in the
book.
Bye for now

Greetings to the Leicestershire Mailing List.

This is the first time I have posted anything concerning this county.

My Grandfather Henry Percy CHAPMAN was born at 87 Crafton Street,
Leicester
in 1889, his father was Alfred CHAPMAN a violinist and mother Mary
Elizabeth
Selway CHAPMAN both of Bristol.

There was also an older sibling W A CHAPMAN, possibly William Albert,
probably born Bristol, but not confirmed.

Firstly, can anybody undertake a lookup in the 1891 census to check the
family grouping for the above address and also can anybody provide
information and possibly pictures of Crafton Street, espically No 87.

Finally can anybody provide information on the Orchestras listed in
Leicester around 1889.

Waiting in anticipation, many thanks.
