Hi Martin

Grateful for your response, but I don't think it was the pub. The story
goes that one of the youngster's in the house once cried out to the Earl,
"steam's up, me Lord" when his mother was making the tea!

Hi Chris,

Have you considered the Earl of Stamford being the name of a Public House?
The Bradgate House referred to may be the one in ruins in the centre of
Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford. It was the home of the Gray family and
dates back to Lady Ja y the 9 day Queen. It is Elizabethan in
architectural design and apart from a few walls and a small museum operated=

in one of the remaining rooms by Leicestershire County Council nothing
much
remains of the house.

I believe some of the descendants of the Gray family live at Groby, Leics
a
nearby village. In fact if my memory serves me right there may be an
Earl
of Stamford pub at Groby or you could try Newtown Linford the village
adjoining Bradgate Park.
Some food for thought for you.

Good luck in your search.

Martin
