Subject: [LEI] Bad Attachment
Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 11:45:07 -0400
I sent an email to the list last night re Ellis Island. One person on the
list reported that she had received an attachment to the email containing a
virus. She
forwarded the attachment back to me. My computer instantly recognized the
virus and isolated it. The virus attachment is <humor.txt.pif>. If you
get that attachment delete it without opening it.
However, I did not send an attachment except to those persons who
specifically requested it in response to that email. Both the text version
and the HTML version of the attachment are clean. I scanned my entire c
drive last night, downloaded the latest antivirus updates again this morning
and scanned it again, and my computer is clean. The email to the list is
run through Rootsweb servers, which does not allow attachments, so the
attachment must have attached to the email after it left Rootsweb.
If anyone else received an email with humor.txt.pif attached, please let me
know.
