Where did you get your records from? Here is a copy of my reply to Andy:

I am very interested in Belton, and found exactly the same problem. I think
it is to do with the Civil War. I looked through the original Parish
Register at LRO. My interest is in the KIRKMAN name.

I have quite a lot of other information about Belton records at LRO so
please contact me off list to see if we can help each other.

You are in luck there are some gaps but the period 1732 - 1812 seems to
be intact according to my handlist.
