Here is an interesting "stray" from Ashby de la Zouch (the origin of my
Broadhurst line) that raises some questions and provokes comment. Note in
the 1861census transcript record for Newhall that Mary Broadhurst is listed
as head of household but wife of landowner. If her husband was dead we
would assume it would say "widow" but then where is he? Anybody got an
explanation? Is Newhall in or close to Leicestershire?

Note also that the 13 and 14 year old boys were listed as "colliers" that
is, coal miners.
