Hi Colin

I thought I would see what I could find from sitting at my computer.

I have done it in detail (hope it's not teaching you to suck eggs) as
it may help some people see the process of finding leads,
but with the warning that anything found needs to be verified
with actual records.

From FreeBMD:

Births Dec 1885
BARRATT Eleanor Augusta Leicester 7a 257

Eleanor's birth certificate should say where she was born and give
the names of both of her parents, including her mother's maiden name.

Marriages Jun 1907

The marriage certificate would give you their ages and occupations,
the names and occupation of their fathers, and the names of witnesses
who signed the register.

Eleanor came up again when I repeated the search as an 'extended
search' (the link is on the left of the page) putting 'daughter' in
the field 'Relationship to Head' ie she was with a parent and was
not just a lodger.

I then searched in the same area for more BARRATT and found:

I suspected that Mary J BARRATT's entry may have been mis-recorded,
mis- transcribed or mis-interpreted. It is hard to think that she
would have the surname BARRATT if she was Jane's sister, which seems
likely as she is recorded as having been born at Gawcott, the same
place as Fredk's wife Jane.

This looks to be Jane's birth index entry (from FreeBMD):

Judging from the Buckingham birth index entries so far transcribed to
FreeBMD the page number is in the range 213 - 557 :-(((

Given the parish Gawcott, this IGI entry (again on
www.familysearch.org ) would seem to be Jane's christening:

Note: 1042383 is the LDS film number you would quote to look at it
yourself at a Mormon Family history library. To order it for viewing

The Batch number C145391 is an LDS reference to the Christenings
transcribed from that film. There is also a transcription of the
register on film 6909324.

You can search for other BUCKINGHAM on-line by clicking on the Batch
number C145391. You can search among all the names transcribed, or
take a shortcut and fill in the surname you want to search.

There's a MARY JOHNSON BUCKINGHAM, christened 23 JAN 1842 also at
Gawcott, with the same parents
Father: JOHN BUCKINGHAM Mother: CATHARINE
who would almost certainly be the 39 year old sister-in-law Mary J in
the 1881 census entry!

FreeBMD at this time doesn't seem to have a birth index entry for
Frederick, but this IGI entry may be *that* Frederick's christening:

I've given you a start <g> The rest is up to you. Email me if you
have any query as to what I did <g>

I suggest you work through this and confirm the relationships by
purchasing certificates and looking at the actual census entries (and
not just transcripts).

Look also at census entries for 1851, 1861 and 1871. You may find
other siblings. Sometimes there is a bonus in that other family
members eg grandparents and uncles and aunts are listed.
