Gregg,
You have given me an early Christmas present with the maiden name of
Christopher SR's wife. Thank you so much.
My celebration dance consists of getting up, circling the chair and sitting
down. I made it with no injuries.
Let me tell you a family story that has been handed down over the years, a
Lenhart tail. (Please excuse me cousins, if some of you have heard it before.)
It seems that one of the wives, traveling west, wanted to go back home.
Either home sick or had had it with the wilderness hardships. Well, the Lenhart
husband said he would take her back east but he wasn't going to take that
##***# 4 poster bed back over the mountains. (It must have been a chore to get it
across the mountains.)
Since I am assuming that they were church attending people, this is quite a
strong statement. Anyway, the 4 poster bed went west and she went east. I
know the 4 poster bed made it to Ohio because, as a small child on a trip to
Ohio, I slept in that bed. We were visiting our Lenhart relatives in Somerset,
Perry Co. OH. It was one of those beds that was so high you had to use a step
stool to get up on it. I remember a feather mattress and rope cords to hold
it. It made a big impression on me. I was very young so this could have been
the late 1930's. (I am giving away my age here.)
I have often thought that these family stories have a grain of truth in them
somewhere. I was also told that Two Brothers come over from Germany. Now
that could have been the name of the ship or, maybe, a reference to the Chris
Linhart line in Allegheny Co. PA. If I had to guess, it was probably the ship.
Anyway, the point to the first story is.....I have never been able to find
Chris SR's death records........maybe......he died back east with your Friess
family after taking his wife back. Next question, Did the Friess' stay in
Berks Co.? Is Albany Twp. near where Lenhartsville, PA is located? Where are
the Friess cemeteries located?
I will be writing Berks Co. Courthouse to see if they have a Will or Estate
papers on Chris. I never thought to look there before.
What questions do you have for us, Gregg? Have you visited Georgia's and
Greg Lenhart's web sites?
