Maybe there was no response because no one here knew anything about your
particular Lehnardt. I just tried to find your old post - I did an archive
search using Lehnhardt and another using Pete Jansen and didn't find
anything in the last couple of years.
There are many spelling variations for Lenhart - it just seems to be the
most common one today (in the U.S. anyway) - and
Lehnardt is a variation of Lenhart.
Spelling variations happen for all kinds of reason. In early records you'll
see different spellings for the same person - even in his church records,
gravestone, will, census records (census takers used all kinds of
spellings). Then indexers come up with more spellings if handwriting not
clear. One of my favorites is Sanchart. The census taker wrote Lanehart
(for someone usually known as Lenhart). The L was so loopy it looked like
an S and the e was closed and tilted and looked like a C - hence Sanchart.
I've also seen Sinhart (that loopy L again). That dt ending shows up in
early records for ancestors of our today Lenharts. And as recently as the
1930 census, one of my more recent Lenharts who always appeared as Lenhart
in every known record, appeared in a census record as Leonhardt.
So - if your question is - should you be posting on this discussion list -
the answer is yes.
Post your information (names/dates/locales) here again - because it will go
into the archives and maybe someone with a connection will find it later.
Use the reply button here to this subject - or if you do a new post - be
sure to keep Lehnardt in the subject line and add something like Germany
to US 1960-70 - or whatever is more appropriate.
